We are a young, ambitious technical university in the heart of the eastern German region of Lusatia, drawing on scientific expertise to develop practical solutions for shaping the major issues and transformation processes of the future worldwide.

At the Department of Macroeconomics (Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences), we research economic transformation processes and their spatial dimensions. We use our findings to support business, society and politics in shaping these processes.

The department is involved in the third-party-funded collaborative project ‘Centre for Structural Change and Regional Development(ZeStuR), which conducts interdisciplinary research on the conditions enabling successful economic, ecological, and social regional transformation. The advertised position is assigned to the research cluster ‘Revitalisation of Regional Innovation Systems’. Research in the cluster focuses on regional path dependencies and their political economy, and examines the economic dynamics of regional transformation processes.

Task

Your area of responsibility includes in
particular:

Research:

  • Research within the scope of the thematic focus areas of the department, in particular in connection with the third-party funded project “Center for Structural Change and Regional Development (ZeStuR)”
  • This includes independent research in preparation of a doctoral degree (PhD), compatible with the department's current research topics
  • Contribution to further third-party funded research projects (e.g. BMFTR, DFG, knowledge exchange projects)
  • Preparation of publications, presentations, policy-oriented reports and other communications on the research topic

Teaching:

  • Contribution to the teaching activities of the department, for example by leading tutorials and seminars, providing student feedback or managing course administration in degree programmes such as Business Administration (Master's + Bachelor's), Transformation Studies and Environmental and Resource Management
Profile

Your requirements profile:

  • Completed Master’s degree or equivalent  in a field relevant to the position (e.g., economics, human geography, economic geography or comparable)

The following knowledge is required:

  • Good communication skills in German and English

The following knowledge and experience are desirable:

  • In-depth Knowledge of  the theoretical foundations of regional economics, innovation economics or economic transformation
  •  knowledge of qualitative social research methods  or quantitative skills (statistics, econometrics) will be highly valued.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research
