We are a young and dynamic technical university in the heart of Lusatia, developing practical, science-based solutions to address major future challenges and global transformation processes.
The Cell Biology working group, led by Prof. Dr. Kristin Schubert, investigates how environmental chemicals—such as plasticizers, PFAS, and micro- and nanoplastic particles—contribute to the development of overweight, obesity, and related inflammatory processes. Our research focuses on deciphering the underlying cell-biological mechanisms, including how these substances interact with cellular receptors and proteins, alter signaling pathways, influence cellular metabolism, and affect cell–cell communication.
To address these questions, we cultivate human adipocytes and macrophages in single, co-culture, and 3D systems and combine a wide range of classical molecular biology techniques with state-of-the-art omics approaches
